Keeping a steady job can be very difficult especially for anyone suffering from a chronic illness like fibromyalgia. If you can relate and need some extra cash, then making money at home may be a good option for you.

Fibromyalgia and Making Money at Home

Do Your Research

Be aware of make-money-at-home scams by doing some research on the company that you’re applying to.

  • Search for jobs based on your strengths. If you’re good at talking to people then customer service jobs may be more suitable for you and if you’re familiar with social media, then there are jobs for that too.
  • Make sure to use keywords such as work-at-home jobs, or maybe customer service work-at-home jobs. Use sites such as Craigslist to find at-home jobs, but again please watch out for scams.

Scams to Watch For

  • Requests for money. If you’re having to pay for anything that you don’t feel comfortable paying for, they shouldn’t be asking you for any money, so if they’re asking you for money, then it may be a scam.
  • Get rich schemes. Get rich schemes only get one person rich — the schemer.
  • Offers that sound too good to be true. Try to avoid opportunities that sound too good to be true because they probably are. An example of this is when fake employers hire a new employee, then accidentally send too much pay. They’ll ask their victim to send back the difference but then after a few weeks later, when the bank discovers that the initial check is fraud, the employee is on the hook for hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars. So, again, if a job offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Safe Ways to Earn Money

  • Renting out your room. If you have an extra room at home and you’re not using it, then this might be one of the ways that you can make money using sites like Airbnb. Airbnb is a website that connects travelers who are looking for a place to stay with people who are looking to rent out their entire home or even an extra room in their home.
  • House sitting or pet sitting. You can find people looking to find somebody to watch their home, maybe if they’re going on vacation. You can watch their pets, you can take care of them, and get paid for that.
  • Rent out your car. If you’re not able to use your car, then you can easily rent it out and make some money off of that. There’s a website called relayrides.com; they offer a million dollar liability, just in case there’s an accident.
  • Rent out your driveway. If you live next to a train station or an airport, then there may be somebody who needs a place to park their car.
  • Start a blog or online business. If you’re good at making jewelry or painting, health, cooking, technology, and personal finance, anything that you’re good at, you can go online and easily create your own business.
  • Become a virtual assistant. Work for somebody at home. Virtual assistants can do anything from checking emails and making travel plans to handling internet research or working for their small business. There are so many other jobs where that came from so if you are looking to do that type of work, then remember those tips and happy job hunting.
