What to Watch During a Fibromyalgia Flare-Up
Fibromyalgia flare-ups can bring unwarranted symptoms of extreme fatigue, aching joints, and tender muscles which can interrupt your day.
So, what can you do during a fibro flare? Grab your remote. Turn on the TV. And watch a TV show or movie in the comfort of your bed (or couch). Codie offers her tips on what to watch during a fibromyalgia flare-up.
I don't know about you, but I have to take a day sitting on the sofa, watching TV, the last thing I want to watch is daytime television. It's repetitive and boring and reminds me that I'm poorly.
So, I subscribe to things like Netflix, Now TV, Amazon Prime, DisneyLife, anything at all that I can find something to watch on days where I'm not feeling well. I find it difficult to watch DVDs because that involves getting up and changing the DVD physically, which is something that on a fibro day, I just don't have the energy to do.
So here are some things I would recommend.
Find a Series You Can Binge Watch
You need a series you can get your teeth into, whether you binge watch the whole thing or it's something you dip in and out of.
At the moment, I love watching A Series of Unfortunate Events, Orange Is the New Black or Brooklyn Nine-Nine for something a little bit lighter.
When you're feeling sad, there's nothing that you need more than a good laugh. They say that laughter is the best medicine, so find a comedy that you love.
For example, I love Modern Family, Cougar Town, and Parks and Recreation.
It's also great to have something that you don't have to concentrate too much on, something you can dip in and out of an episode of and know that you'll still laugh. For that, for me it's Friends.
There's not an episode that I haven't seen, but I would watch 1,000 times again, and there's always something that makes me laugh in every episode.
The Feel-Good Classics
You know these types of films – they're the films that you watched when you were younger and loved.
So, for example, things like Matilda, 10 Things I Hate About You, Flubber, anything like that that brings you good memories is a perfect thing to watch when you're not feeling terrific.
Disney films are a winner for anyone of any age. Everyone has a favorite Disney film, and if you don't, you should try watching some of the new ones, and I'm sure you'll find one that you love.
DisneyLife is an excellent app for that because you don't have to get up and change DVDs, but it has a vast range of different Disney films, some of which you might not even know existed.
Watch YouTube Videos
If I feel like I've got a bit of a short attention span, I will watch YouTube videos. So, sometimes I'll watch inspirational people who I know are suffering from the same thing as I am, and listen to their advice. Obviously, NewLifeOutlook has some great videos on this.
Sometimes I'll watch entirely different things. I love watching Let's Plays of games, I love vlogs, I love Get Ready with Me videos – just really chilled content that I can watch and mindlessly enjoy.
I have a little playlist on YouTube that I watch when I'm feeling rubbish. It's either things I haven't seen yet that I'd like to watch or videos I've watched that always make me laugh that I want to watch again. So why not do something like that?
The Bottom Line...
I would suggest finding something that you love, whether you try a new series or a new film, something that you've wanted to watch for ages and enjoy, or whether you go for an older classic, something that makes you warm inside, that feels like a hug to the soul.
Whatever it is, there's something that will hopefully help you feel better. Decide whether you want something stimulating or whether you want something you can watch completely passively.
